What's it all about?
Business pitch competition and graduations are the culminating events for Entrepreneurs in Training (EITs) as they complete Defy's rigorous CEO of Your New Life program. During these events, EITs present their business ideas in several rounds of a Shark Tank-style competition to panels of volunteer judges. Judges ask clarifying questions, provide feedback to strengthen the business concepts and pitches, and evaluate the overall presentations with their fellow judges to select competition winners. The event also includes icebreaker and empathy-building exercises designed to create an inclusive and accepting community. At the end of the day, five winning pitches are selected from the group in an awards ceremony, followed by a cap and gown graduation ceremony in which EITs are awarded a Certificate of Entrepreneurship issued by the Drucker School of Management at Claremont Graduate University.

What's it all about?
Come join us on our monthly hike. This month, we will be exploring the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook & Culver City Steps. Discover this 1.3-mile loop trail near Culver City, California. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, it takes an average of 43 min to complete. This is a very popular area for hiking, running, and walking, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. You'll need to leave pups at home — dogs aren't allowed on this trail.

What's it all about?

Please join Defy SoCal staff and EITs in a morning of community outdoors. This hike is about 3.5 miles roundtrip and is considered easy. The hike to Eaton Canyon Falls can be summed up this way: 1.1 miles of wide flat, relatively uneventful dirt trail, followed by 0.65 miles of single track up a narrow canyon that is adventurous and fun (forming a 3.5-mile round trip hike with 375 feet of elevation change). Eaton Canyon Trail is well-marked and easy to follow. Along with a powerful waterfall, spring brings a bountiful bloom to the park, filling the sides of the trail with fern leaf phacelia, chia, and other flowers. At the waterfall, we'll have a snack, hydrate, and rest alongside the water before heading back down the trail.

Bring your water bottles, snacks, and comfortable shoes. Feel free to bring your family and friends, too! This trail is dog-friendly.
